What is baptism?
Baptism is a beautiful and sacred moment—when God says “yes” to us in grace and we respond with a “yes” in faith, beginning a lifelong journey. In the United Methodist Church, we believe baptism is a gift from God for people of all ages—infants, children, youth, and adults. It’s not something we earn, but a sign of God’s love that lasts a lifetime.
Already baptized in another Christian tradition? Wonderful—we honor that. No need to be baptized again.
Baptism & Belonging
Baptism is more than a personal milestone—it’s about joining a faith community. That’s why we ask that those being baptized (or their family) become part of the Hope UMC family. If you're not sure about that yet, let’s talk! A conversation with a pastor can help you discern your next steps.
How does it work?
We typically use the method of sprinkling—placing water on the head as a symbol of cleansing and new life. Pouring or immersion are also meaningful options—we’re happy to explore what’s right for you.
When can we do it?
Most baptisms happen during our 10:00 AM worship service. It’s a joy to celebrate together as a church! If there are special circumstances, we’re open to scheduling a private baptism.
