Thomas' doubts point to more than a lack of faith on his part. The Roman Empire had done a good job of deconstructing Jesus. They not only ended his life, they deprived him of his human identity. That is what crucifixion was about: the dehumanization of an individual and a people. Jesus does not blame Thomas for his doubts. He shows him his body. Resurrection is a project of re-humaning an individual. First, Jesus, and then all of humanity. Today, we have a multitude of ways we dehumanize one another. Easter people are about the work of resurrection. We are an Easter people and Easter people make humans human again.
