In September 2025, Hope United Methodist Church will celebrate 50 years of serving the people of Greenwood Village and beyond. We began in 1974, gathering in a model home loaned to our fledgling congregation, led by Rev. Dale McArthur with support from Parker United Methodist Church. Within months, we moved to Belleview Elementary School, and in 1979, we settled into our current home at Belleview and Dayton.
From the start, Hope has been a church on mission. Our first outreach sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family. We welcomed thousands of visitors during Pope John Paul II’s visit to nearby Cherry Creek State Park for World Youth Day in 1993. We’ve helped launch Smoky Hill UMC, created the South Metro Medical Equipment Loan Closet, and followed in the footsteps of our beloved sister Ann Fort by sending mission teams to Kenya and helping establish Chuka Church there. In recent years, we’ve planted The Land, a new worship community in southeast Aurora.
Over the decades, our facilities have grown to meet ministry needs: a 500-seat sanctuary in 1984, expanded offices and classrooms in 1998, and a Memorial Garden in 2000, where the ashes of loved ones are laid to rest in the place they worshipped. Known for our Parents’ Day Out Preschool and vibrant music ministry, Hope is a place where children and adults alike can grow in faith.
Today, our campus is both a worshiping community and a gathering place for our neighbors. As we step into our next fifty years, we remain committed to living out our mission — a place where hope changes lives.
